Meeting Activities
Scouts worked on advancements, ate leftover cake, and did a knot tying relay race. The Church graciously gave the Troop $100 to give to a local organization you want to support. Text your patrol leader with your recommendations and the PLC will vote at the next PLC meeting.
 
March 4th, 6pm PLC Meeting
Please come if you are part of the PLC. Food provided while you plan the upcoming meetings and decide where to send the $100 donation. Let SPL know if you can’t attend.
 
March 4th, 7pm Regular meeting
We will probably pack up Scout Sunday displays.
  
8:30 - 10am March 31st, Easter Sunday and May 11, Blossomtime Parade
Will you be in town? If we have enough Scouts, the Church would like us to make a pancake breakfast before the service on Easter. Parents are needed Easter Sunday from 7:30am-9am for cooking then supervise the serving of the meal. We also need to know if you are available to march in the Blossom time parade. Everyone, fill out the form below to let us know if you are available for either/both/none of these events.
 
Cook for Concerts? 
The church is planning on concerts for the following dates and wondered if Scouts would be interested in selling hot dogs and brats at any of the concerts. All concerts are on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Philmont - Get your AB and C health forms ready!  
The health forms for Philmont are different from the regular ones for summer camp. Your doctor needs to work on C so get this done soon. Never give anyone your original health forms! Keep the originals and give copies to the troop, and any camps you attend. They are not giving forms back any more. Use this link for the correct forms.

We are going to Cole Canoe Base! Our Summer Camp week is July 21-27. Please email [email protected] if you want to go to camp. Bring your payment to the next meeting and she will send you a link to update your Scout’s info so you can choose merit badge classes and water adventures. Activity selections start next month. Meeting Activities
Scouts worked on advancements and discussed Philmont updates.
 
Scout Sunday at the Church! Feb 25th, 9:00am 
Scouts should arrive at the Church ready to help out at 9-9:30am on Sunday. Scout’s will wear Class A’s with uniform pants or jeans, greet guests, open doors, operate the elevator, light candles, collect offering, help with the service, and host the congregation after the service in the basement for cake. Use your best behavior!
 
March 4th, 6pm PLC Meeting
Please come if you are part of the PLC. Let SPL know if you can’t attend.
  
8:30 - 10am March 31st, Easter Sunday
Will you be in town? If we have enough Scouts, the Church would like us to make a pancake breakfast before the service. 
 
May 11, Blossomtime Parade
Do we have any Scouts not in high school bands that want to march in the parade? Please reply if interested. 
 
Philmont - The Trek assignments are out!  
Our two crews will be doing a Strenuous course (#7-11) in the north country part of Philmont in some cool new topographies and activities, and a Rugged course (#7-7) in central Philmont that ends with a hike into base camp.  Both Treks include too many activities and sight highlights to list, and our crews need to get ready!  They have shakedown trips tentatively on the calendar - please keep up with your Philmont Crew leaders.  We do have space to add additional hikers if there is anyone out there still interested - contact Brett Bacon or Orrin Lorenz. Please let Blake know your preferred shirt color.

Scouts worked on advancements, talked about Klondike, unpacked the trailer, and set up Scout displays for Cub Scouts’ Blue and Gold and Scout Sunday. Cydney hosted some girl Cub Scouts. We need a new Scoutmaster. Please contact Bobby Hill if interested to learn more. 
 
Treasurer - The Adult Committee is happy to announce that Beth McKim has become our new Troop Treasurer!  She will assist event organizers on event budgeting, track fundraising and scout accounts, and reimburse individuals for troop expenses - Keeping the Troop on solid financial situation   WELCOME AND THANK YOU BETH FOR VOLUNTEERING! She can be contacted any time and plans to be at most Monday meetings. 
  
Feb 19th 7pm 
We will have a regular meeting on Presidents Day.

Philmont (June 18-25) - Final payment to Philmont DUE
Please bring money (or confirm scout account payment) to the next meeting.  $542.5 per scout or adult.  There will be one more payment  to the troop for travel costs as we align on those and reserve.   The Philmont Adults are planning 3 practice weekends - one each in March, April, May to physically and organizationally prepare for this exciting trip! 
 
Mackinac (July 6-13) - 50 scouts have applied - still a small bit of room for late additions if you hurry!  Those who have applied will hear within the month of February if they have been selected to attend, and if they are selected for PLC.

Meeting Activities
Scouts worked on advancements, finished repairing the sleds, and packed the trailer for the Klondike. We need a new Scoutmaster. Please contact Bobby Hill if interested to learn more.

Klondike Derby Feb 9-11, 2024
Meet at the Church on Friday Feb 9th at 4:15pm to finalize packing the trailer. Fill out the attached health forms AB and the permission slip and bring it Friday. Scouts are responsible for securing their own rides to and from the Rod and Gun Club. The trailer will leave at 4:40pm to get there when registration opens at 5pm. Remember to check out a tent and tarp from the quartermaster if you need a tent for this event. It looks muddy, so try to find proper footwear. Costs are being calculated ($15 for event + ? for 2 meals + $5 for Sunday Breakfast), the troop needs to provide breakfast and dinner for Saturday, and everyone brings a can of soup, also bring $5 each to eat the awesome breakfast on Sunday hosted by the Rod and Gun Club. Scouts will return to the church around 10:30-11am Sunday. Scouts may call/text if this time changes. Text Blake Bacon if you want to cook at this event to complete requirements for Cooking Badge.
 
Monday Feb 12, regular meeting 7pm
Scouts should plan on helping Mr. Dansfield set up the displays so they are up for the Packs Blue and Gold ceremony and unpacking the trailer. Mrs. Rusbasan will be here to go over Cooking, and Citizenship of the World requirements with any Scouts that need to get these signed off.

We want to decide by next week!

It looks muddy, so try to find proper footwear. We need adults to help with activities and provide 2 deep leadership. Costs are being calculated, the troop needs to provide breakfast and dinner for Saturday, and everyone brings a can of soup, also bring $5 each to eat the awesome breakfast on Sunday hosted by the Rod and Gun Club.

We didn’t have a meeting this week because of the ice, but we have some info for you.
  
 14 Scouts and 4 Adults had a great time at the Climbing Kalamazoo Overnight! Many climbing walls were conquered, belaying teamwork was learned and exercised, and three scouts earned their climbing merit badge.  A few arrived without money - please bring your payment to the next meeting. 
 
  Jan 25th (Thursday!)  7pm - FINAL Mackinac call-out night.  At the call-out: First time scouts get a full program review and introduction training, and Returning scouts get a Leadership mini-course.   Applications are due by Jan 31st for preferred selection status!  Troop 623 is very underrepresented in applications so far!  Don't be late! 
 
 Philmont scouts - Trek preferences are due!  Please be sure to review the options and come to the next meeting prepared to make a case for your trek choices and vote!  Also heads up that the next payment is also coming up in the next month.
